Do almonds really play a role in child's intelligence?

Time and again, we all have heard about how good almonds are for kids and teenagers to maximize their intelligence, but what must have bothered a lot of people is, how and why almonds are good for your brain? What exactly almonds offer that makes them better than other foods? And similar questions. In this post, I am gonna talk about those hows and whys while trying to keep it simple for you to understand. What most people might or might not know is, the human brain needs fat to thrive, and almonds are rich in good fats (Monounsaturated fatty acids and Polyunsaturated fatty acids). But, this is not the whole picture. Human Brain is 60% Fat. Yes, our brains do need fat to thrive and develop, but fats are of different kinds and not all of them play an equal role in the development of the brain. Different types of fat are, Saturated, Monounsaturated, Polyunsaturated and Trans (this fat is created when oil crosses its smoke point and is extremel...

Things to consider while buying Cooking Oil

Ever see that big “Zero Cholesterol” tag most companies use to sell their cooking oils? Well, they are technically not lying, but there’s a lot more to it than just “Zero Cholesterol” .  I don’t use any sort of cooking oil on a daily basis, but since most people do, I thought I should share some vital information which will help you to choose the best option. I will try to keep it simple for you to understand, and tell you what you need to know. Trans Fat and Smoke Point You might wanna rethink about your frequent visits to Mcdonald's or any other fast food outlet. The worst among all types of fat, and consumed by most people unknowingly. But, due to increased awareness, more people are now becoming familiar this fat, which in turn is leveraged by companies and now they, in addition to “zero cholesterol” also print “zero trans-fat” on a lot of packed food products. The cooking oil which you buy will not have any trans-fat, but like every oil, it will have ...

Exercise Bulimia: In your quest to achieve a flat stomach, you are doing more harm than good.

One day, you suddenly feel enough is enough, let's burn this stubborn fat and get back in shape. That is a very important day in your life if you are seriously considering to change things for good. But, most people start without knowing much about fitness, just like I did. The basic motto which almost everybody who is new to fitness follows is "More Workout equals More Fat Burning". And you start working out more than you should, eating less than you should and you think about workout all the time. As a result, you start losing fat, which motivates you to further increase the intensity and frequency of your workouts and be more diet conscious. This is where things get messy, people become obsessed with workouts and their ignorance of nutrition and other basics of fitness lead their body to physical weakness and mental stress. This is a disorder known as Exercise Bulimia.  If you do not know what you are getting yourself into, you will eventually end up hurting yoursel...

The Decision that Changed My Life.

The score was 8 Kg, I had hit the plateau and was struggling to lose more fat but the indifferent nature of the trainers didn't help me much, so I quit the gym and started working out at home and that decision changed my life. So what did I do after quitting the gym? How did that decision change my life? Why did I quit the gym knowing that I won't be able to access the equipment? The Answer   To put it in simple words, I thought I could do this better if no one is there to boss around. I thought how cool would it be to make a comeback and astonish everyone in the gym with my transformation. I bought a pair of dumbells with adjustable weights, a pair of push up bars, borrowed a barbell with some heavyweights from my friend and used an iron stand in place of a pull-up bar.  Now, I had all the things I needed to get started. With the help of the equipment, I trained every muscle in my body and after each of my workouts, I ran, I ran a lot (well, except for the leg day)...

The Beginning

T he year was 2013 and I was about to finish my schooling, that's when I noticed a gradual weight gain in my body. My belly had started to become flabby and a small double chin was noticeable. I was a very careless kid in those days and did not worry about a single thing in my life. No one likes the fact that they are overweight and like the majority of overweight people who don't like the shape they are in but are too indifferent to do something about it, I also ignored my weight gain. It was already 2014 and I was in the 2nd year of college, I weighed around 85 kilos, which according to my height (5'11'') was touching the upper limit of standard weight. The topic of standard weight is for another post, for now, let's just keep in mind that standard weight does not apply to every individual. Coming back to my case, though 85 kilos isn't considered as overweight for my height, I knew I was extremely unhealthy. I couldn't even run half a mile without ...
